Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS) is a one-of-a-kind faith experience for children. It begins with children 3-6 years old, and it is completely tailored to fit their love of movement, repetition, and beauty. Children can learn profound truths of our faith and how to talk to the God who loves them even at the young age of 3. In a Catechesis of the Good Shepherd atrium (it does not look like a regular classroom) children will learn how the altar is prepared for Mass and the names of the sacred vessels. They will learn why the priest makes certain gestures at Mass. They will learn Jesus’ life written in the Gospels from his conception at the Annunciation to his Ascension into Heaven. These children will have hands on experiences with the parables describing the Kingdom of God. Every one of these experiences is centered on fostering the relationship the child already has with God, allowing them to discover the love of Christ with their body and mind.
A great amount of love goes into creating a Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Atrium. Almost every material that the children interact with is handmade from natural materials. Despite having an operational Level I atrium, we are in the process of building a Level II atrium from scratch. This means we need help creating the pieces for this new atrium, for children ages 7-9 to enjoy.
If you or anyone you know has skills in crafting and would like to donate their time, talent or treasure, please contact Cecilia Davis at [email protected] or the parish office at 740-774-1407.
